Abstract
There are some moral features which involves both positive and negative aspects. Pride is one of these features. Pride is accounted as ethical vices and religious sin by Islamic philosophers.Islamic philosophers had usually signified the pride as the peace of oneself to those which are for the whim and lust or such other things like that. But some of them, like Ibn Miskawayh signified this as a positive meaning; “self greatness”. Western philosophers according to their religious and ethical views have the same description of negative pride and know it disapproval ethically and it is a kind of sin religiously. However, pride used as positive and a virtue according to them. For example, Aristotle introduced pride as “crown of the virtues” in his Nicomachean ethics, as if human, without it, haven’t got any valuable motivation for his life. Considering different meanings based on different performance, decision about ethical order faced it with problems. To evaluate pride ethically as vices or mere virtue or a relative command could have important results in different areas including, social and political relations; and its analysis as ethical or intellectual vices could suggest different ways to reform it. The present study with the title of “pride in ethic; analytical report of Islamic and western philosopher’s views” set by gathering and analyzing Islamic and western philosophers works in library method aimed to investigate the topic based on Moslems and western’s philosophers, then compare its meaning and ethical order and the order of effective situations in the feeling’s goodness or badness and interpreted it based on religious contexts to find a correct lifestyle related to the problem.
